Vedic Sun vs Western Sun — Why They Differ
Most people know their Western (tropical) Sun sign from newspapers and apps. But Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac, measured against the fixed stars. Over centuries the two zodiacs have drifted about 24 degrees apart, a gap called the ayanamsa. This means that if you were born in the last week or so of a Western sign, your Vedic Sun sign is usually the sign before it. A Western Scorpio often becomes a Vedic Libra, a Western Leo a Vedic Cancer, and so on. For any genuine Vedic reading, your sidereal Sun sign is the one that matters.
