Gemstone Recommendation by Date of Birth — From Your Lagna, Not Your Rashi

A stone strengthens a planet, and you strengthen only what is good for your ascendant. All nine are graded WEAR, TRIAL or NEVER with the houses printed - and the stone you already wear is checked too.

Your Gemstone Recommendation Journey

Three stones. One chart. Every rule printed.

All nine stones graded for your ascendant with the rule printed, one page per stone, the weight in ratti from your body weight, the ritual, the fakes, the honest costs, and what to do when no stone is allowed — the stone question, settled before you spend. 81 EN / 78 HI pages, English or Hindi, in your inbox within minutes — ₹99.

STEP 01 · LIFE STONE

House lordship — the classical rule

The lagna lord’s stone, worn for the whole life — in the metal and on the finger that planet takes.

STEP 02 · LUCKY STONE

Primary planet — chosen by eight sources, every vote printed.

The 9th lord’s stone, for fortune — worn only when the 9th lord is not also a maraka for your lagna.

STEP 03 · BENEFIC STONE

Planet strength — the second check

The yogakaraka’s stone, for one specific gain. Most charts need one of the three, not all three.

Your three stones and your avoid list — free, above. Weight in ratti included.

The method

Gemstone Recommendation by Date of Birth: How the Verdict Is Reached

Ask ten shops which gemstone should I wear and you will get ten answers, most of them the one they have in stock. The classical method is narrow and specific: a stone strengthens its planet, so you strengthen a planet only when that planet is good for your ascendant. The lords of the trines (1, 5, 9) are strengthened; the lords of the dusthanas (6, 8, 12) are not; the yogakaraka - the planet that owns both a kendra and a trine for your rising sign - is the single best stone you can wear.

That is why a blue sapphire is the finest stone in the world for a Taurus or Libra ascendant, where Saturn is yogakaraka, and a mistake for an Aries ascendant, where Saturn owns the 10th and the 11th and carries a different weight. It is also why a "lucky stone by name" or "birthstone by month" table can never be right - neither knows your rising sign.

This calculator computes your chart from date, time and place, works out which houses each of the nine planets owns for your ascendant, checks each planet's strength (exalted, own sign, enemy sign, debilitated, retrograde, combust, and the house it sits in), and grades all nine stones: WEAR where the planet is a functional benefic, TRIAL where it is mixed or shadowy and needs a three-day test, NEVER where the classical rule forbids it. Every verdict prints the reason - which houses, which strength - so you can take it to an astrologer and argue with it.

It then names the three stones tradition assigns from the 1st, 9th and 10th lords - the life stone, the fortune stone and the career stone - gives the finger, metal, weekday and weight in ratti for each, the cheaper substitute (uparatna), and the stone for the planetary period you are running now. If you already wear something, type its name: the same rule is applied to it in one line.

Gemstone Recommendation by Date of Birth — How the Stone Is Actually Chosen

A gemstone recommendation by date of birth is only as good as the chart behind it. The method is short: find the ascendant (lagna) lord, check whether it is strong or weak, and give the stone of the lord that needs support — never the stone of a planet that rules the 6th, 8th or 12th house. That last rule is the one every seller's tool skips, because it removes most of the expensive stones from most charts. This gemstone recommendation by date of birth applies it first.

Which Gemstone Should I Wear? The Question, Answered Properly

Which gemstone should I wear depends on three things this gemstone recommendation by date of birth reads: your lagna lord (the life stone), your 9th lord (the luck stone), and the strongest yogakaraka planet for your ascendant (the benefic stone). For a Leo lagna that is Sun → Ruby, Mars → Red Coral, and again Mars as yogakaraka. For a Libra lagna it is Venus → Diamond, Mercury → Emerald, Saturn → Blue Sapphire. Which gemstone should I wear has a different answer for each of the twelve ascendants, and this page prints yours with the house arithmetic.

Lucky Stone by Date of Birth — Why It Is the 9th Lord, Not the Moon Sign

Lucky stone by date of birth is usually sold as the stone of your Moon sign. That is the wrong planet. Luck in Jyotish is the 9th house, and the lucky stone by date of birth belongs to whichever planet rules your 9th from the lagna. For Aries lagna that is Jupiter (Yellow Sapphire); for Cancer it is Jupiter again; for Capricorn it is Mercury (Emerald). The Moon-sign stone is a Rashi ratna, and no gemstone recommendation by date of birth should stop there — a general stone, not a personal one.

Which Gemstone Not to Wear — the List Every Seller Leaves Out

Which gemstone not to wear is the more important half of the reading. Never wear the stone of the 6th, 8th or 12th lord for your lagna; never wear the stone of a maraka (2nd or 7th lord) unless it is also your lagna lord; and never wear two stones of enemy planets together. For Aries lagna that rules out Emerald (Mercury, 6th lord) and Blue Sapphire (Saturn, 11th but enemy). For Taurus it rules out Yellow Sapphire (Jupiter, 8th lord). This gemstone recommendation by date of birth prints your avoid list before it prints your wear list, because which gemstone not to wear costs more when you get it wrong.

Life Stone, Lucky Stone, Benefic Stone — What the Three Names Mean

Life stone, lucky stone, benefic stone appear on every recommendation tool and almost none explains them. Life stone = lagna lord, worn for the whole life. Lucky stone = 9th lord, worn for fortune and long-term luck. Benefic stone = the yogakaraka or the strongest well-placed benefic, worn for a specific gain. Most people need one of the three, not all three, and an honest gemstone recommendation by date of birth says which. Life stone, lucky stone, benefic stone is a reading order, not a shopping list.

Gemstone by Lagna or Rashi — Why the Rashi Stone Can Be the Wrong One

Gemstone by lagna or rashi is the question that decides whether a stone helps or harms. Rashi (Moon sign) stones are assigned to the sign's ruler with no reference to your chart, which is why a Scorpio-Moon person is told to wear Red Coral even when Mars rules their 6th house from the lagna. Gemstone by lagna reads the ascendant — the frame the whole chart sits in — and the classical texts on ratna (Garuda Purana, Brihat Samhita) speak of the lagna, not the Moon. If a tool asked only for your date of birth and gave a stone, it used the rashi. This gemstone recommendation by date of birth asks for the time so it can use the lagna.

Nine planets, nine stones - only some are yours
In depth

What your ascendant decides that a shop cannot

Part I - Your chart, and what it allows

Your chart drawn out with all nine planets, their signs, houses and dignities. Which houses each planet owns for your rising sign, and what that makes it: yogakaraka, functional benefic, kendradhipati, mixed, maraka or functional malefic - the classification everything else rests on, with its classical source. Then the moon-sign stone and the birth-star stone worked out alongside, so you can see where the three traditions agree and where they part - and all twelve houses with their signs, their lords and each lord's stone, as a reference page.

The rule is printed beside every verdict

Part II - All nine stones, graded

Ruby, pearl, red coral, emerald, yellow sapphire, diamond, blue sapphire, hessonite and cat's eye - each graded WEAR, TRIAL or NEVER for your chart, each with the rule and the planet's strength printed. One page per stone: what it is said to strengthen, what it will actually touch in your chart, a six-step proof, the finger, the metal, the weekday, the weight in ratti from your body weight, the substitute, and an honest price band.

Part III - Your three stones, and your problem

The life stone from the 1st lord, the fortune stone from the 9th, the career stone from the 10th - with an honest verdict on each, because a chart can name a stone the rule then forbids. Which of the three to buy first, which may be worn together, and the pairs that must never share a hand. Then twelve common problems - marriage delays, money that does not stay, a job that will not move, court cases, health, children, study, property, fear, foreign travel, business, family peace - each traced through the houses that govern it to the stone your chart actually offers.

Finger, metal, weight and day for each

Part IV - Buying, testing, wearing

The three-day test before you spend anything. Honest price bands for all nine. Six ways to spot a fake or a treated stone. The seven classical flaws from the Garuda Purana - web, spot, double line, pit, crack, dull colour, dot. Where each stone comes from and what the origin changes. What the stones actually are as minerals - hardness, composition, what makes the colour - so a shop's story can be checked against a fact. Which hand and finger, for men, women and left-handers. Inherited and second-hand stones. Children, pregnancy and old age. The energising ritual step by step, and the signs that tell you to take a stone off.

Part V - Timing

Your Vimshottari dasha with dates and which stone suits which period. The sub-period you are in right now, with its own dates - and the honest arithmetic on whether a stone is worth buying for a period that ends in a few months. The day and hour to first wear it.

How to energise a stone before wearing it

Part VI - If no stone is allowed

For every planet you must not strengthen with a stone: the mantra with its count, the charity, the fast and the practical habit. Then the Lal Kitab remedies - a tradition that deliberately prescribes acts instead of stones and costs almost nothing, which is exactly why no shop mentions it. And the rudraksha for each planet, which needs no ascendant check at all.

Part VII - Limits, reference and the playbook

Twelve questions people ask, answered from your chart. A technical appendix an astrologer can reproduce. What a gemstone can and cannot do, said plainly. A glossary. And a one-page playbook to take to the shop: what to buy, what weight, what to pay, what to say at the counter and what not to accept.

Why this calculator is different

Computed like a shastra, written like a friend

🪨

Your ascendant, not a birthstone table

The same stone helps one person and hurts another because the planet owns different houses for different rising signs. A birth-month table cannot know that; your chart can.

📅

Every rule printed

Hover any stone: which houses its planet owns for you, how strong it is, and why the verdict came out the way it did. Nothing is a verdict without its reason.

We say no, too

Most charts allow only two or three stones. We mark the rest NEVER and give the mantra-and-charity route instead - there is nothing for us to sell you.

What to do with your three stones

Stone-wise: which to wear, which to test, which never

WEAR
Lagna lord & 9th lord

Life stone and lucky stone. Wear on the planet’s day, in its metal, after a simple energising — no puja package needed. Start with the life stone alone; add the second only if the first settles.

TRIAL
Blue Sapphire, Hessonite, Cat’s Eye

The fast-acting three. Even when the chart allows them, wear for three days first — under the pillow, then on the hand. If sleep, money or temper turns in those days, stop. No trial, no wearing.

NEVER
6th, 8th, 12th lords & enemy pairs

The stone of a planet ruling a difficult house from your lagna strengthens what works against you. Never two enemy planets’ stones together. Your avoid list is printed above, before the wear list.

These are the classical rules. YOUR version — with weight, metal, finger, day and the uparatna for each — fills Parts IV–VII of the report.

Myth vs Fact

What this calculator is not

Myth: The wrong stone ruins you.
Fact: A stone is a support for one planet, not a verdict on a life. The gain is small and specific; the loss from the wrong stone is real but reversible — take it off.
Myth: Your birth month decides your stone.
Fact: A birth-month table is a jewellery convention. In Jyotish the stone belongs to a planet, and which planet you may strengthen is decided by your lagna — the same month gives different stones to different ascendants.
Myth: A bigger stone works faster.
Fact: Weight is scaled to body weight, not to ambition. Past the traditional ratti the stone does nothing more, and a large flawed stone does less than a small clean one.
Myth: If the seller's tool recommended it, it is safe.
Fact: A seller’s tool has no reason to print your avoid list. Ask which house the stone’s planet rules from your lagna; if the answer is 6, 8 or 12, the recommendation was a sale.
Myth: Blue Sapphire is dangerous for everyone.
Fact: It is dangerous for the wrong chart and quick for the right one. Saturn strong and ruling good houses from your lagna, plus a clean three-day trial — then it is the most effective stone in the set.

Questions people ask

Gemstone Recommendation — Frequently Asked

Kaun sa ratna pehne - how do I find my stone?
Enter your date, time and place of birth. The calculator computes your lagna and prints three stones - life (lagna lord), lucky (9th lord), benefic (yogakaraka) - and, more importantly, the stones you must not wear for your ascendant. Without the birth time, only the rashi stone can be given, and that is a general stone, not yours.
Neelam kise nahi pehnna chahiye - who should not wear blue sapphire?
Anyone for whom Saturn rules the 6th, 8th or 12th house from the lagna - that is Aries, Leo, Cancer and Scorpio ascendants in particular - and anyone with Saturn debilitated or combust. Blue Sapphire is the fastest-acting stone in the tradition, which is exactly why it is worn only after a three-day trial and only when the chart supports it.
Do you sell the gemstones you recommend?
No. AstroMool does not sell stones and has no commission from any seller. That is why this page prints your avoid list first - a seller's tool has no reason to.
Can I wear my rashi stone without checking the chart?
You can, but it is a general stone. For about a third of people the rashi ruler is the lord of a difficult house from the lagna, and the rashi stone then strengthens a planet that is working against them. Check the lagna first.
Is the substitute stone (uparatna) as good as the main stone?
Weaker, but safer and much cheaper. Garnet for Ruby, Moonstone for Pearl, Peridot for Emerald, Citrine for Yellow Sapphire, Amethyst for Blue Sapphire. If the budget does not reach a clean main stone, a clean uparatna beats a flawed main stone.
How many carats or ratti should I wear?
The tradition scales the stone to body weight - roughly one ratti per twelve kilograms for most stones, less for Blue Sapphire and Hessonite. A 60 kg person is looking at about five ratti of Yellow Sapphire. The report prints the weight for your stone and your body weight.
Which gemstone should I wear according to my date of birth?
The honest answer needs your rising sign, which needs the time and place too. The rule is not "your birth month is May so wear emerald" - it is which houses each planet owns for your ascendant. Enter date, time and place and all nine stones are graded for you free, each with the reason.
Can I wear a blue sapphire (neelam)?
Only if Saturn is a functional benefic for your ascendant - for Taurus and Libra rising it is the finest stone available, because Saturn is yogakaraka there. For several other ascendants Saturn owns a dusthana and the classical rule says no. The calculator tells you which case you are in, with the houses printed.
Is a gemstone by birth month (birthstone) the same thing?
No. The western birthstone list is a jeweller's calendar from the twentieth century. The Vedic method reads the planet, the ascendant and the houses. They agree only by accident.
I am already wearing a stone. How do I know if it suits me?
Type its name in the form. The same rule is applied to it and you get a one-line verdict with the reason. If it is a NEVER for your chart, the report explains how to stop wearing it and what to do instead.
What does TRIAL mean?
The planet is mixed - it owns both a good and a difficult house, or it is Rahu or Ketu, which own no sign at all. The classical practice is to wear the stone for three days (a borrowed or a small piece) and watch sleep, temper and small events before buying. The report explains the test.
How heavy should the stone be?
The common rule of thumb is body weight divided by twelve, in ratti, adjusted by the stone - a diamond is counted in carats and worn far smaller. The report computes it for your weight and prints the formula, so you can check the jeweller.
Ruby or yellow sapphire - which first?
Whichever belongs to the stronger functional benefic in your chart, usually the ascendant lord or the yogakaraka. The report ranks them and says which to buy first if the budget allows only one.
Can I wear two or three stones together?
Some combinations are classical and some fight - a blue sapphire and a ruby on the same hand, for instance, are usually kept apart. The report lists which of your allowed stones sit together safely.
What if no stone is allowed for my chart?
It happens, and we say so instead of selling you something. Part VI gives the classical alternatives planet by planet: the mantra with its count, the charity, the fast and the practical habit.
Does the stone have to be expensive to work?
The tradition asks for a natural, untreated stone free of visible cracks - not a large one. A small clean stone is preferred to a large flawed one, and the substitute (uparatna) is accepted where the main stone is out of reach. The report gives honest price bands.
When should I first wear it?
On the planet's weekday, in its hora, after energising it in water, milk and its own herb, with the mantra. The report gives the exact day, the hour for your city, and the steps.
How long before it works, and what if it does not suit me?
Tradition allows about forty days to judge. Disturbed sleep, sudden irritability, or a run of small accidents in the first weeks are the classical signs to take it off - the report lists them, and says plainly that no stone is guaranteed to work.
What is included free?
All nine stones graded with their rules, your three named stones, finger, metal, weekday and weight, your chart drawn, planet strengths, the stone for your current period, and a check of the stone you already wear.
