Most horoscopes in newspapers and apps are written for the Western sun sign - the sign the Sun was in, in the tropical zodiac. Vedic astrology reads the horoscope from the Moon sign, your rashi, in the sidereal zodiac. The Moon moves through a sign in about two and a half days and describes the mind, emotions and daily experience, which is why Indian astrology has always used it for daily and monthly predictions.

Because the sidereal zodiac is about 24 degrees behind the tropical one, and because the Moon and Sun are usually in different signs, your rashi can be completely different from the sign you read in a magazine. Each morning the positions of all nine grahas are computed with the Swiss Ephemeris in the sidereal zodiac (Lahiri ayanamsa). For every rashi, each planet's house is counted from that sign. A Moon-sign horoscope describes the weather, not your particular day. Everyone born with the Moon in the same sign shares the transits shown here, and what differs is the birth chart underneath - the houses those transits fall in, the dasha running, and the strength of the planets involved. Used properly, a daily reading is a planning tool rather than a prediction. When the Moon sits in your tenth house, work is where attention naturally goes, so that is the day to push a proposal. When it reaches the eighth house - chandrashtama - the classical advice is to avoid starting anything new, which in practice means moving a difficult conversation or a signing by a day or two.

A single day's reading is dominated by the Moon, which moves quickly; the monthly reading follows the Sun, Venus and Mercury, and the yearly one follows Jupiter and Saturn, which is where real career and relationship shifts show up.

The one line worth taking seriously on any day is the chandrashtama warning. It appears two or three days a month for every sign, and the tradition is unusually consistent about it across regions and schools.
