Guru Chandal Yog is Jupiter sharing a sign with Rahu. That is the whole classical condition. Jupiter is the teacher, the counsellor and the principle of received wisdom; Rahu is the one that arrives from outside the accepted order. The compound names the pairing.
The name has done a great deal of damage. Chandal in the classical vocabulary marks what sits outside the accepted order - it is describing Rahu's character, not making a prediction about you. What the texts describe is unconventional judgement: someone who reaches conclusions by a route the people around them did not expect. Whether that reads as independence or as waywardness depends on the rest of the chart, and the sources say so plainly.
Most pages check only the sign. That is the minimum condition, not the whole one. Jupiter one degree from Rahu and Jupiter twenty-eight degrees from Rahu share a sign and are read very differently - and a page that gives you a yes or a no without the separation cannot tell you which you have. This one computes it.
Rahu and Ketu are not interchangeable. With Rahu the pairing is called Guru Chandal. With Ketu several authorities give it a different name and a different reading altogether - Rahu amplifies, Ketu subtracts. Pages that report both under the same name have merged two separate readings.
And the classical literature gives mitigations: Jupiter's own strength, placement in a kendra or trikona, its own sign. We check all four and print the ones that do not apply as well, so you can see the check was complete rather than selective.
